Waking

I find sheer joy to wake with you And feel the ebb of our night’s sleep, With flesh secure beneath warm sheet While morning light seeps faintly in, The dawn obscured by falling snow, All worldly sound subdued by storm Though your soft breathing, still relaxed, Resounds and falls clear in my ear; I stave off thought of chilly floor And bundling up, Hot coffee’s jolt, Snow shoveling, Then clearing cars— No, I prefer to spend this day Just waking … waking with you.
