Wake of Tears
Ocean currents wash ashore stolen dreams
from ancient sun-bleached beaches
where, once, innocence stood naked
waiting for the shawl of night to cloak its tears.
Riding in the wake of waves
these tears were planted firmly in the sand,
glistening in the day-bright hours
wherever elements, unlike, embraced.
Listen well and you will hear with each loud roar
muffled cries silenced by indifference over time.
Those who know the pain of losing something dear
also know the emptiness left by dreams unfulfilled.
Each tear a dream.
Each dream a hope.
Each hope a prayer
of life to come.
