Waiting Room Design

If I designed a waiting room There would be comfy couches, Distracting patients from what may Be followed by some ouches. The tables would be practical With boxes filled with tissues And piles of magazines to read – Of course, the current issues. The walls would be a soothing hue, The artwork so relaxing That no one would be worried ‘Cause appointments can be taxing. The TV sets would have to go; Not everyone would buy it, But I would be much calmer if The waiting room were QUIET!

I am from a generation where doctors made house calls, so I think Waiting Rooms were designed to reduce doctor expenses and dramatically increase profit by spreading germs, parasites, and disease. It seems many doctors purposely prolong exposure, so it is no wonder American health rankings have sunk, but thanks for adding light to the problem! Aloha! Rico

I agree with most of what you have written, Ilene. Some waiting rooms can be quite noisy, but others, where the gravity of the situation is different, one can hear a pin drop! Our family doctor keeps on very low soft music, which I don't mind. Regards // paul

The atmosphere in a waiting room can have a profound effect on individuals who are hoping to receive good news about a loved one. If the room were quiet and designed as you describe in your wonderful poem, it would make things easier for them. I know your verse is a bit tongue in cheek, but your ideas deserve consideration. Very nicely written, Ilene. Have a Merry Christmas!

Oh, how I agree with you - a very witty write - I've spent too many times in waiting rooms at docs offices as you describe. Happy you liked the justice write. True story - I was a Colorado Bailiff for about 10 years after retirement from the Air Force and there was a blind judge in Denver. Also just recently a long-time DA here in Col Springs who is legally blind was elected to County Judge.

lol Ilene, having had many visits to the hospital this year I can relate, it can be very noisy and my hubby hates the TV being on in some of the waiting areas when all you want to do is have a bit of time to think especially if you are anticipating the news you are going to get may not be so good. Hope all is good with you and the family:-) hugs Jan xx
