Notes About The Poem

Constance contest

Rubaiyat AABA, BBCB, CCDC, DDDD

rhyme sequence

10 syllables each line

Waiting by the sea rock

waiting for you at the rock by the sea
high waves surge in to bathe me to my knee,
sea gulls shriek-in, hovering for a meal,
dusk slowly fades, and its night and just me.

away I walk with the sea at my heel,
nature’s routine spins the eternal wheel,
along dim lit roads to distant abode.
some love, some memories, and lonesome feel.

at the farm where once on saddles we rode,
then a passing thought brushes a sweet node,
breeze teases my hair and whistles across,
tears fill my eyes, within, your voice echoed.

the sea, the meadows, the sky know my loss,
each day, each night, each time through them I pass,
Yet sweet is the pain that such memoirs cause.
in that sweetness, is you, me, all there was.

Congratulations on your winning work in Constance's contest. I enjoyed reading it today. Way to go. Memories that are good are so nice to have, but sometimes the remembering is painful for us. Sara K
