Voices
Our newborn baby boy
he appeared just like a miracle
He landed from another world
our darling extra-terrestrial
Gazing through those bright blue eyes
like glistening stars in heavenly skies
And speaking with his unique voice
lifting our spirits; oh how we rejoiced
For slowly, softly one by one
across the years words start to come
So full of life our dear sweet boy
Each day I’m filled with utter joy
Such challenges ahead of him
He has no fear; he cannot hear
To speak words he has never heard
such words must be deciphered first
He speaks in signs most of the time
watching their lips when they speak
Words they say he tries to repeat
turning their words into sounds unique
Our darling boy is now a man
and working hard, does all he can
Instilled in him all dreams to chase
Be kind, be gentle to the human race
Then on this most momentous day
Looking skywards I start to pray
The sun rises high in an azure sky
My time is up; my time to die
Gently he kissed me with tears in his eyes
so sad to watch his mother’s demise
Whispering words so fresh, so new
I hear his voice saying ‘I love you’
