The vivid dream retained If only a picture Of that beautiful house Remained. One photo is left One of you and your spouse The vivid dream retained Each time I dream the dream Every alcove and niche Becomes more defined In style, the house was rich The vivid dream retained If only I could see You again and visit Tell all we know and share The earth is doomed. Is it? The vivid dream retained Soon we'll meet in heaven The house won't mean anything But our familial love will Awesome feelings bring Written: January 27, 2021 I keep having this dream about my uncle and aunt's home which burned after they sold it and moved years and years ago. The people who bought it did not live there but maybe six months before it went up in flames. I guess the dream is more about them and their relationship to me though but the house was a beauty. One definition of retain is too keep in memory.

Loved reading your vivid dream Sara. From your replies to the comments below, I understood how much that particular house meant for you... According to me, any home small or big, but if it has two souls that could love everyone who come there, that is the best home. Certain unerasable memories get stored in our brains, and often pop up as dreams. Hugs ~ Ani

Anitha, Yes, it was the love of the people who lived there that made the home come alive. It was a calm happy place in my mind. My aunt and uncle were hard working people but they always had time for others. Thanks for your nice comment. Sara

When you can’t return to an event or home etc.. you do dream over and over. I had that happen. I dreamt about my family hometown for years (my parents had moved to Florida). At one point I was able to visit and see where I lived and a couple close family friends then the dreams stopped.

Kim, Well, the house is gone and so are my kin so I really can't go back. The homeplace where they lived has changed so much also. It doesn't seem like the same place. I will see them again in heaven in that beautiful city where earthly things won't matter. Your presence at my page is always uplifting. Sara

Hi Sara, I'm sorry your Aunt and Uncle’s house burned down in a fire. I think you keep having that dream about the house’s connection with your aunt and uncle, who you loved very much. I enjoyed your final stanza that expressed that you will meet your loved ones again in heaven.Well done. I enjoyed the read. Thanks for sharing such a write. Have a great day:-) Alexis

Alexis, Yes, I think the dream is about my relationship with my aunt and uncle and not really about the house. I miss all those who have gone before everyday. Thank you for stopping by and taking time to read and comment on my work. Sara

Andrea, It has been so many years ago now probably 30+ years. I have been by the place which now has a different house which replaced the house that burned nothing like the one that was there and the whole place(land, pasture, trees, etc.) declined or deteriorated. It doesn't look like the same place. Sara

Hello Sara, Can a home be more than four walls, a floor, and ceiling? In your poem 'Vivid Dreams' it seems so. Very nice memories. -Richard

Richard, Yes, the home was a home and not a house. Its walls held in the love of two people who enjoyed giving to others. I am delighted that you dropped by. Sara

Victor, Yes, that is true except I did not see them as old. They never had a child so they enjoyed other people's child(nieces and nephews). Sara

Nice write about the tragic loss of a house. My family lost a house as well, but it was not due to a fire. My late brother was a compulsive gambler, and he lost the house due to his gambling.

Robert, Addiction to anything is a bad illness. I feel for your family having to deal with his illness. Whatever the addiction it takes over a person's life and usually sucks family members in as well. Thanks for the visit to my page and relating your situation. Sara

In your words I feel the affection you had for your uncle and aunt and also the house. You certainly had some pleasant memories about the house--though it is gone, your mind is not ready to let go. I like the voice of the form you used, Sara.

Vijay, Your presence at my page is always uplifting. Your comments help me to see my deep affection for my kin. Maybe I am not ready to let all of them go that have gone on before even though it has been over 20 years. Sara

So sad about your uncle and aunt’s house Sara, even though it had been sold it’s a tragic thing that happened. I’d guess you get the recurring dream because of the fondness you have for your relatives as well as the house... Belle

Belle, Yes, I think I am missing my relatives more now since we are at home so much and don't have the company of others most of the time. Your presence at my page is encouraging. Sara

Judy, Yes, I really liked that house and the farm that was part of it. My aunt did a lot of work on that country home and turned it into a show piece. They were my favorite aunt and uncle. Thanks for dropping by. Sara
