Hi Jennifer, I love anything Viking. They lived in a hard land so they had to be hard people to survive. We should not forget the shield maidens either. A hard people for hard times. This is such a wonderful Limerick Jennifer. Loved the content. Have a wonderful Tuesday. Hugs....Mike. XX

It was hard times they lived in and they did survive but were quite ruthless - i'm glad you enjoyed it Mike - my husband also loves the series of the Vikings on Netflix. Be safe. Blessings, jennifer.

They may have been brutal but they also were great explorers and I can't think they were all bad, but they sure have the reputation going. I enjoyed your Limerick Jennifer. I too love watching the History channel. Keep safe from this Coronavirus. xxoo

Hi Connie, people don't use their brains sometimes, and it only means that they run the risk of catching Coronavirus and spreading it in the village we live in. A Resident invited her daughter and grandchildren to spend the day with her yesterday. First of all the law says that is not allowed and secondly the committee here says no. This is a serious deadly virus last night it was almost at twenty three thousand dead globally - tragic. I'm sure there were some good vikings (VIKINGS STRIKING) among them, but they did plunder a lot. Keep well my friend and your wonderful family. Blessings and hugs, Jenny.

I admit I've been right there, fully engrossed during each episode of the History channel's 'Vikings'. Good description creativity, Jenny! Being as the Vikings conquered so many lands, most all of us have a drop or so of their dna, as I understand it! Hugs, CayCay

Vikings were as bloodthirsty as other warriors of their times. Probably they lacked 'education' and were looked upon as inferior barbarians. I have a feeling that they enjoyed being the underdogs and then surprised their enemies! ~ Warm regards & hugs // paul

They enjoyed raiding and plundering but yes there were others, the Crusaders for instance killing in the name of God! And today we have ISIS who will just chop our heads whilst been filmed. Thank you for a wonderful comment Paul. Warm regards and hugs, Jenny.

But filthy dirty, as were the Royalty - imagine living in those years and your partner was caked in mud and blood ....... or royalty, and he came to his 6th wife after he hadn't bathed at all!!!! Stay well and strong Gershon, don't forget to have vitamin B injections! Blessings, Jennifer

I think the "romantic" way they can be depicted is probably a joke,. If we were to go back and see them as they were, I bet they were just horrid lovers!!! Caked in dirt too. Aren't we lucky to not have been born back then. I enjoyed this, Jennifer. The violence depicted of them certainly must be true!!

Hi Andrea, yes it was a violent era with loose morals, but what if we compare that yester year to today, there are probably a great many similarities. Thanks Andrea my friend for a terrific comment. Blessings and hugs, Jennifer

There is TV a series about the Vikings on Netflix - pretty barbaric - but that was how they lived then - ruthless killing and low morals, but having said what I did what has changed if we compare today to then with our drug scene and loose morals. Thanks for a great comment Lindsay, Blessings, Jennifer

Yes then was a barbaric era, but if we think of what ISIS is doing and all the little battles going on all over the world, it doesn't seem that we have changed much! Thank you for a wonderful comment Sandy, Blessings, Jennifer

It was a barbaric era. Raids, rapes, thieving and murders were the order of the day. Very happy you enjoyed my limerick S.O. Blessings, Jennifer.

Love the Limerick, Jennifer, and agree with the subject, but that was life in those day, barbaric which relates to all cultures.

Yes I know, but difficult to think that it only a millenium ago. A drop in the in the ocean when it comes to time and the millions and billions of years archeologists talk about. Thank you for dropping by Harry, A real pleasure to have you visit. Blessings, Jennifer.

Your verse here is so blunt and arresting, it is so vivid and detailed, especially the line 'bloody garments of war' - I actually don't watch that show but have heard of it-

- Many old prejudices about barbaric Vikings and primitive ignorance live even in 2020 :))) - The Vikings were mostly trading, but you could not prevent anyone stealing instead of barter ... after a lot of "mjød" / beer it often became a struggle ... and what we would call rape today - (We haven't moved yet, starting this weekend) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Hi dear Sunshine Smile - the Englsih Christians in this series are just as ruthless! And even the Crusaders in the 12th century killed many in the East in the name of God! I think as far back in history as we are aware of, greed has motivated man to go to war. 'mjod' is a kind of beer made from water and honey and left to ferment - very interesting my friend, good luck with the move! Blessings and hugs, Jennifer.

You're right Anne, Hollywood shows them in a bad light, they were no worse than many other cultures at the time, as for the Romans they were something else. Tom

- About 10% of Vikings were "barbaric and bloodthirsty" - the rest lived by nature and were peaceful :)
Date: 3/6/2020 2:42:00 AM
They were a blood thirsty band, they feared nothing, thinking a glorious death would enable them to sit in Valhallla with the God's. I take it you've been watching Vikings, with Ragnar, Floki and all those colourful characters. Hope alls well. Tom
