Notes About The Poem

Veteran's Day

It's called, "The Greatest Story Ever Told,"
A virgin's child fulfilling prophecy
The Son of God who died for you and me
The Bible tells, "to save our sinful souls."

Another story just not quite as old
The struggle of a people to be free
Some fought and died for our democracy
These freedoms we enjoy, the debt that's owed

And yet we draw on faith to give us hope
Conveniently we worship as we please
Just thankful that one day is all it costs
So we can get back to our slipp'ry slope
Our veterans gave us this life of ease
They died for us, just not hung from a cross
