Ann and I saw this painting at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam a couple of years back. There are many symbols of love in the painting by all accounts. We felt we were prying / almost spying on the woman from a distance through the painted tied up curtain- the words "unguarded moments" from your poem spring to mind here.

Just one of the many Vermeer's 'girls ' Gary, although the one with the earring is best known from the film
