Verdant Meadows

A bird sings with melodic flow As butterflies flutter to and fro While a summer breeze does gently blow At the edge of the woods where blackberries grow In verdant meadows blackberries florish And many creatures this fruit does nourish It is also used for medical reasons The Romans enjoyed blackberry tea in its season Along country highways in sunshine's glare You'll find blackberries growing there Some may stop to gather the fruit And many others will follow suit Seasons will change and leaves will turn gold Snowflakes will fall as winter unfolds But in meadows in summer's glow There'll be places where blackberries grow 8-3- 2022 Your Thoughts On Blackberries Poetry Contest Sponsor: Matt Caliri

Very nice, Joseph. Relatable to anyone who has ever picked blackberries. Not to say those who haven’t don’t have serious thoughts along other lines. They do stain the skin yet with little damage. Love that third verse, have seen that done along the highway many times.

Congrats on placing 7th out of 37 in my contest! I loved the call back in the last line from the first stanza...it brought a magical/mystery element to the piece.

I love blackberries. But we have to import them. They don't grow in Malta..

Your thoughts bring me back to my grandmother's blackberry cobbler. Thank you Joseph, for the memory. This is beautiful in every way. Many wonderful blessings to you, my sweet friend. :) Hugs, Brandy
