Valentine

Words brought to life
Must be the result of feeling something
Blasted out like mortar
Like stormy wind
True expressions cannot be bottled

Skim across the calm
Like a flat stone
Time tumbling behind
Voice, the tongue of each droplet

But what if I’m numb
What if one arm is busy pulling things to me
And the other arm is left to keep myself afloat
causing me to swim in circles

Don’t touch me with
a whispered question
Don’t slap me with an audacious commandment

Can I find someone to blame?
Slowly I sink with one arm held behind my back
Hand grasping a dagger,
or is it a valentine

Your arms extended, hands eager
To receive
