Vain Longing
I long for and grieve over the flower
That has wilted from the plant
But never bothered to admire it
While it smiled in full bloom
Or waved to me in cheerful camaraderie!
God, help me not to dwell on things gone
But see the beauty and loveliness
Of big and small things which surround
And think of the mystery and miracle
Of your creative hands that made them
