Vacuum

The echoes of children's giggles and laughter in the night have long died down; the house has become unbearably hollow, as though the very life of it has just been sucked out; once again, it has become a cage seeking a bird that hasn't lost its throaty song.

I can relate to that empty house, and how difficult to adjust when they have grown and left the nest. The empty chairs at the dinner table, the sound of the doors slamming, and the daily blessing of knowing they are tucked in bed at night. This poem is a beautiful, yet sad tribute to children growing up. Great write! Love, Carrie
