Upside!

Maybe it’s time I spoke my mind.
Tell me, what’s the punchline?
The world is upside down.
So my smile becomes a frown.

Spending these dark nights
Alone, under these streetlights
With a plate of alfredo.
I sleep without you.

My friend is gone to Pennsylvania,
The rest drifted away.
I’m in love. It’s mania.
Wish it would stay this way.

Too late, you're a creep.
Pawned, manipulated by one.
You drove away the rest.
You gave everything but the best.

Everything is falling out of scheme.
Lines
Are breaking out of place.
Shattered.

Interactions flew by today.
The world is grey.
Day by day,
“Let’s play the funny guy.”

Let’s look at the upside.
Will you be my guide?
I’ve run out of ash and string,
And I’ve burned everything.

Realism in life is important and this poem demonstrates it.

Sometimes, not always, the most effective way of getting relief from despair is to give relief from needing repair. Not to merely know you are lovable as you are, at least on your best days, in your better moments; but to reassure some wounded Other that they too, we all, as a species, are livable and lively, in our best ways--not necessarily our creepist days; but redemption is a process, right? Like healing a damaged sacred MotherEarth.
