The last line tells it all ! The humor and sarcasm in the middle line make one think of the tendency of some 'clever' people. Great haiku.

Creative and descriptive about the situatution to a point. Why did he buy roses and for whom? It makes me want to laugh but then not want to laugh. Sara K

Sotto, this is a beautifully compact and emotionally resonant haiku. I detect a subtle wink of Billy Collins-style humor in your haiku. Especially the last line, “love has its limits” is both resigned and wry. A great example of Collins' tendency to end poems with a quiet twist that reframes everything. But, your lines could be interpreted as the bittersweet truth that affection doesn’t always erase obligation. Wow, a masterful piece I enjoyed reading over and over. So much in few words.
