Until You Return

It’s 4 am I feign sleep the room is quiet it’s only your breathing that I hear its rhythm is almost hypnotic it feels safe the night light of the city shimmers through the window the blinds cast linear shadows almost prison like bars I count them one by one I hear the faint rumble of a plane in the distance and I know why I can’t sleep you’ll be leaving in the morning I look at the clock it’s now 4:10 there’s no ticking clocks don’t tick anymore I wish they did just a few minutes left before some plane will whisk you away from me and I’ll feign sleep each night until you return

You captured the restless feelings one has when parting from a loved one. The ending says it all..and I’ll feign sleep each night until you return. Well done, Mike.
