Unnatural Selection

Life started out pretty well, of that I won’t complain, Somehow then I lost it, god knows I can’t explain. Melancholy has taking over, Good times have gone awry Life is a haze and passing, like the blink of a teary eye. I’m not checking out just yet, although I feel the end is near My intellect keeps me going, it’s my thoughts that I fear. Some might call it cowardice, but I know what’s in my head. It’s not positivity or happiness, that part of me is dead. There’s a void that’s inside of me, draining my life and soul It cannot be filled or satisfied, Eaten alive by a black hole. As I spiral inwards, trying to find the way back out I’m obsessed with curiosity, of what life is all about. This is not feeling sorry for myself, far from it in fact. I’m Probably the luckiest man alive, yet this is how I react I continue to live for my family, and people I can trust. for you who try to judge me, I hope you spontaneously combust So where is all this heading, I really have no clue The future the past and the present it’s all long overdue If your not sure in that last line what I’m trying to say, it’s like everything That will ever happen already had it’s day. I’m pouring over my existence, trying to make some sense And much of what will follow, won’t instill much confidence. I’m not been solipsistic, maybe spiritual or downright mad This is what I came up with, some might think I’m sad.. The fact I’m alive and self aware, only confirms my belief Without my life there’s nothing, and that brings little relief It means there is no universe, unless I exist to see. From my perspective I’m immortal, l simply have to be. Your the eyes of this universe, once it made you self aware. You have to be here, even if life is not very fair, It’s your destiny and It could not happen any other way This was dealt by the cosmos, and it compels you to play. Nonexistence is a human illusion, and time is much the same. You will always have a life, Just on a different plane. It will seem like your gone, to those you leave behind, But your part of the cosmic balance, not just a memory in their mind. The fact is you attained life, and discovered it does exist This means there is a living area, hidden amongst the mist We are essentially part of it, and bring it into view It will be out there always, it exists because of you. I hope by now you realize just what I’m trying to say The truth is, it’s hopeless to believe you die and rot away. In the physical sense, I accept that this comes to bear But reality is so much more, it’s in you and it’s everywhere. Everyone you’ve ever known, or has ever walked this earth, Take time out of the equation, and yet there still out there. Information cannot be destroyed, even the scientists agree Einstein himself said time’s an illusion, and yes that is the key! Time will cease to exist, the day your body dies, Then the true reality will open up your eyes. You will experience the universe how only it can be seen, no time no death no barriers, and in it every single being ‘! Today It’s all about technology, as a result of Neil’s giant leap, We cannot live without it now, but alas it does not weep. And if it has no conscience, it won’t care of killing its maker Like the apostles in the Bible, sold out Jesus their savior. At first the earth was flat, Then they say it’s round. Now it’s an oblate spheroid,That means it’s both, I have found. As the fine tuning goes on, who knows what they’ll find. The most visually impaired Are probably the least blind. So I hope this crazy poem will give you food for thought If your life’s in a mess, because of what you’ve been taught. And if it helps you see, there’s more than meets the eye, Never accept the accepted, keep asking the questions why? By David Kavanagh

Much to ponder. My personal belief in God makes me marvel at science and our interconnectivity to everything else around me, both the seen and unseen. I also can’t imagine that an all powerful God only created life on this small speck of dust that we live on. A belated welcome to the soup.

Thanks Richard Who knows what lies beyond death, it really seems to me we simply have to be, creation came from somewhere, but then I think who created the creator, I did write a very short story on the soup page, about certain theories of my own, might explain this poem, cheers David

David, This is a great write. Very powerful, beyond thought provoking. Thank you for sharing this poem. Reading this piece I felt like I was reading my own thoughts. Also much you expressed reminded me of the eighteenth century mystic, Emmanuel Swedenborg. If you are not familiar I think his writings would interest you. Check out the Swedenborg Foundation and Online community site. I can't tell you how much your poem means to me. I'll be reading more of your poetry. Best, Tamra Amato (•?•)

Thanks so much for your lovely comments Tamra I’m delighted some people relate to what I’m trying to say, it was my first go at poetry so it’s pretty rough around the edges, trying to make sense of my deepest thoughts but I do genuinely believe the cosmos can only be seen through our minds eye and that can it only be achieved by your own personal life, after all where was the universe before you became aware of it. I will check out Emmanuel’s work cheers David, PS I’m made up! A lot of my other poems are pretty bleak or bland don’t expect too much

All thoughts that have plagued me time and time again. The mind is a powerful and dangerous thing...I have to force myself to stop thinking at times. This is a very brilliant and intelligent poem. I like it. Great first post!

Thanks again aurora, it came from a short story I wrote, trying to understand what is reality and life, and I kind of morphed it into a poem of sorts, not many get the deeper meaning like you, Cheers David

David, welcome to soup. I especially liked this part "Your the eyes of this universe, once it made you self aware. You have to be here, even if life is not very fair, It’s your destiny and It could not happen any other way This was dealt by the cosmos, and it compels you to play." Fine poem.
