Unjoined Fortunes

What unjoined Fortunes thwart us? Rare Chance knows!
     Though you are young like spring, we have this time:
     in fellowship, we commune in your prime.
Before long, all your hardships, trials, and woes

at last shall be but misery that goes,
     far, far away. Once hid in harsher clime,
     our link is now revealed in this true rhyme:
the mutual bond we share much stronger grows.

We're inspired, each, though we're both worlds apart:—
     in mine, lovers unite despite their crime;
in yours, with brush you paint eternal art:
     forever never meeting, space and time,
though, never can test our love;—for to depart
     our fates, and not to join, tempts the Sublime.
