Universes On the Scented Road

Barley universes on the scented road
Where I sat within sun swept gold,
that grew so tall in the autumn lea
untroubled by warm hedgerows
Miles of swept and hissing tops
Where I could read or doze awhile

And between my eyes and the spire
in the distance a car hurried by
Beyond the rise where swallows reel
telling me of blue and pinky cloud
Beckoning me on to further fields
to rest awhile on summers road
