Underneath the Willow

When I was a child
I would sit all day long
Singing my mama's song
Underneath a willow tree
I tried to crawl in the hallow
Cause truth be told
The truth was too hard to swallow
And I was tired from what I'd seen
Every night her bed was damp from her weeping
While he'd lay peacefully sleeping
Like a cruel joke once told
The punchline being
He was never hers to hold
And I'd see him laughing at her pain
And all were calling her insane
And I'd lie awake
In the middle of the night
Waiting for some soldier to come
And take up my fight
No I don't want a rescue
Just someone to
cry to
So can I ask you just one thing
If I may?
What would you do if I were
To ask you to stay?
Would you stay? Would you go? Or would you undo me and everything that I know?
When I was young
They used to call me untamed
Running through the store
Waiting for someone to call my name
As if I ever could be found
I made sure I never made one sound
But he tapped me on my shoulder
Ending my thoughtless game
And I ran to the front
Hanging my head in shame
So can I ask you just one thing?
Would it ever be worth it just to take one swing?
Cause they made me so tough
But when is enough ever enough
And they were all laughing at my pain
As all were calling me insane
So can I ask you just one question
If I may?
What would you do if I were
To ask you to stay?
Would you stay? Would you go? Or would you undo me and everything that I know?
Could you undo me and everything know?
