Notes About The Poem

Undergrowth with Two Figures - Van Gogh

I could never tell reality from dreams,
so palpable, oil on canvas seems,
and while in both realms, I now dwell,
must I say to one, farewell?
or go on living in Hell?

On a long spring day one hopeful May,
my imagination would display
violet poplars and undergrowth of green,
where emerged a woman, so serene -
magically, from nature, unforeseen.

She spoke to me and I could feel
that she must certainly be real,
but she told me she wasn't there.
I said I didn't care -
she was the answer to my prayer.

As dappled light on my skin, tingled,
reality and dreams commingled,
and this lady fine and fair,
that I swore I saw standing there,
disappeared slowly in the air.

Very nice interpretation David! I found the painting rather creepy myself... so went with that in my poem. I get a similar vibe from yours, but a bit more magical. I like what you've written very much! Good luck! Xo

Thanks Crystol - the first thing I noticed was that the woman was kind of there but not there, almost invisible. I'll check out your poem!

Lovely write David. I just wrote one almost like this but it was slightly different about a man who has a dream. Best of luck David in the contest. I really like your theme on this one and it is a good contender for a win...
