Under Your Light
When you passed
The color of life drained out.
Black and white
And shades of grey strewn about.
I can still hear laughter
In fading echoes.
And see happiness
In fleeting memories.
Snapshots of moments
In time froze.
While I'm thrust forward
Devoid of these.
How can I live in the moment
When its a moment your not in?
How can I embrace the future
When a sheet of black walls it in?
But, I search for the color
In the smallest things-
A leaf turning gold.
A bird that still sings.
I paint with the light
That seeps through the cracks.
Hoping to bring warmth
Into the spaces that lack.
For though you are gone
I feel you in the breeze.
In the hush of the night
In the rustle of the trees.
If I can gather these fragments
And hold them close.
Perhaps I can stitch together
A quilt of hope.
A way to move forward
Not forgetting, but finding
A place where your light
Can continue on shinning.
