Unconditional Love

There were times when I couldn’t define…
The way I felt, the small pieces of me…
That I’d kept hidden, safely away…
From the world’s eyes.

There were parts of my heart…
That I wouldn’t allow anyone to see…
Little bits of myself that I kept for only me…
Because I couldn’t believe anyone would accept…
The woman within, the one who had flaws…
Faults that came out sometimes, imperfections…
That taunted and haunted me, …
These, I neglected to reveal…
Because I was afraid of being rejected.

You taught me that love is unconditional
Love sees through the masks,
Into the hidden places…
Deep inside, behind the walls…
Erected to keep away pain and betrayal.
Your love has taught me that I’m ok
I’m someone that deserves love and acceptance
You understand when I make a mistake
And never reject me because I fail some days

Thank you for showing me this love
Love that never fails to make me feel
That I’ve been blessed with something special
Love that is more beautiful and amazing
Than I could have ever anticipated
Love that is alive with joy, hope and faith
Love that knows me, totally…
And gives fully, without holding back
Love that is… the answer to my greatest needs
The reason for my hopes and dreams
Love that becomes… more special
With each passing moment

Thank you, my dear friend
For a love that I can believe in
