Unconditional Love

Oft have I wondered how wonderful it would be
if there were no fine print
in your love for me.

Even in your arms, inundated by your charms
you seem caught in wayward thought
washed up, and joyful not.

If I dare speak of marriage, of becoming one
there comes a shadow in your eyes
and failings I own arise.

Love lacks conditional clauses, awkward pauses.
It embraces with one’s whole being
frailties forever unseeing.

Do I ask too much, human nature presiding?
Not if time is endlessly providing
and love is pure and guiding.

I think human love will always be conditional. With God’s Love those conditions can be met. My prayer is that you will find a love that makes you glad to wake up each morning and that your love for another will elicit a similar response. Blessings Rick.

In a general sense, I agree w/ your opening statement. In contemporary usage, however, "unconditional love" refers to love that endures/persists/survives despite the existence of draconian phenomena. Please know, however, I appreciate your comment.

The last line sums up the essence of this missive beautifully.

You have described unconditional love so eloquently Paul i especially love the 4th stanza. If you happen to drop by my collaboration with Nina - there is a serious humour warning and i accept no responsibility for cracked ribs or ruined keyboards if you are drinking tea whilst reading lol We definitely needed a little lift with all the news being so gloomy in the world:-( Take care my special friend I appreciate all your support over my poetic journey:-) :-) hugs jan xx

Thank you, Jan, for the loving, supportive words. I did drop by your collaboration with Nina. It's a work of comedic art . . . a classic that should be chiseled in granite. I think you and Nina should buy liability insurance. Hugs xx Paul
