Notes About The Poem

Uncommon

we soared over clouds
didn't dare look below
capricious emotions
could wither or grow

you played your guitar
i liked what i heard
but to finish your song
you needed my word

i'm low man on the totem pole
and you're my belle of rock and roll
"now play that song with twice the soul -
   don't you love it?"

there's oneness in twoness
to stare in the eyes
of one who looks deeply
embracing surprise

one jigsaw piece left
in the puzzle of you
do i fancy that piece might be me?
or who?

   i'm minoring in history
   you're majoring in mystery
do i like you unconditionally -
   do i love you?

will you touch my life?
will we fly to clouds above?
is it me or who?
is it like? is it love?

we had our lives ahead of us
we had so much in common
and as you once remarked to your cat,
   "how wonderfully uncommon is that?"

Gersho, thank you! I always enjoy when an admired poet leaves an uplifting comment, especially when they point out the line they find memorable. You are appreciated ~ John

The movie was Flight (with Denzel Washington as the pilot who makes a miraculous landing). Above the clouds everything looked so peaceful, then diving down through the clouds as the passengers all freak out.

Hi John my friend, what a wise lady to speak to her cat, like that - for it is truly uncommon, to find a mate with whom you find so much in common. Very important in a loving lasting relationship. love this poem, thank-you for your wonderful visits and awesome comments John. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

It started with a dream I had a week ago, then I added bits and pieces of memories of a musician friend I had back in college, plus some influences from a movie I saw last week. Thanks for asking!

Wow! John, First of all, I must say good photo. This sounds like the start of something new. One may be apprehensive in its newness. But in life sometimes one has to take a leap of faith. You are such an amazing writer, I enjoy reading your work. Have a nice day-Alexis
