Unanswered Prayer

My heart...an empty shell....
laying worn and cracked in the sand...
on the beach of empty dreams.
It seemed like an eternity...
since I heard your still small voice...
          whispering in my ear.
The beach...so cold and uninviting...
     is where I washed ashore.
It's waves...laughing...held me hostage...
with no obvious means of escape.
How did I get here?...I asked myself.
I felt my heart beat like an empty drum...
as a cold breeze surrounded me...
It's Icy fingers stinging my face.
God...where are you I cried...
     to which a reply came.
" No one can hear you. You are all alone!"
I no longer felt any purpose for my life.
My joy had turned to emptiness.
Sitting huddled on the sand...I felt so alone...
As the voices became louder...while the pounding
of the waves increased...fear overwhelmed me.
The days passed...even the fear fled...
     leaving me numb and exhausted.
As I looked up...I saw...in the distance...
a bright light coming in my direction.
The waves calmed as this light passed over it.
Even the wind stopped...the dark voices hushed...
cowering in fear...while the light got closer...
it radiated out...brighter than the sun.
A peace settled over me.
I knew who it was in an instant.
I no longer felt abandoned...
I no more doubted I was loved...
I no longer felt my prayers went unanswered.
I just needed to listen with my heart.
