Ulterior Desires

Within myself I seek to kill this unwelcome desire For ten years this indescribable ache I’ve acquired That my own soul has to itself decreed In long perspective and continually Can I ever bid these joys farewell? This ecstasy wherein my heart does dwell Lo, how it murmurs, laughs and smiles My spirit is too weak, mortality beguiles Shapes of delight, of mystery and fear Yet it is a gentle luxury that doth appear A sense of real things comes doubly strong Against all of my desires, alas, I must stay alone
