Tyranny

Tyranny

I woke up this morning in
an America I did not recognize
So many years of just drifting,
certain of her elasticity
her ability to shake off
the parasites and naysayers
Now I see a buffoon where
lesser buffoons have capered
Why do I imagine that under
that bleached wave, are the
numbers 666?
Wake up all you who have
slept beside me, drifting
in the false safety that is not
We must dust off our shoes
and march again, doggedly
and without reservation.
We must demand justice and change...
peacefully and forcefully.
For this nation is one person
who stands up and says - "Enough!"
My wheelchair and your legs
must gather others and refuse
to be silent - evermore.

Where have all the statesman gone? --- Long time passing … We certainly hardly recognize our country now … and yet, as vulgar as he is, DJT is just a symptom of the times, of bigger issues than the little man he is: Polarization, lack of public civility, alienation and anomie, the cheap, crass commercialism of Facebook, and (most of all) a sick-at-heart, device-addicted society!! (Only such a society could nominate two charlatans like Hilary and DJT for what used to be called 'President.' :) gw

Throwing the wheelchair into this poem struck me as hilariously telling. You are totally serious, and my friend, good for you! When is the ENOUGH coming? I fear never. I truly do. And since when is a station that uses the word NEWS just an entertainment channel with only "alternative truth" - allowed to use the word NEWS? Our world is topsy turvy upside down, Sherry. Walter Kronkite would be having a throw down.

I agree. We need an honest adult in the position, but since none are honest, I would settle for an adult! Taxpayers from both sides never agreed to paying for the wall. Well said Sherry! : ) xxoo
