Two Puppies At Great Spinx of Giza
We are not going far, Mama they lied to me.
Only to Egypt, way across the sea.
I figured maybe Des Moines, certainly not Chicago.
Which was hundreds of miles, much too far for two puppies to go.
Will you be home for lunch? I asked them, thawing out some chow.
They professed to not know. Said good-bye in bow-wow.
I was not worried, how far could two young puppies get?
If I had known, I would have thrown a fit!
Gone for two nights, then a week, two months now.
I was sorrowful, barking sad lonely “bow-wow”.
I thought they were dead, my two favorite litter pups.
I was crying and sobbing, drowning grief in my cups.
My man said “Come on woman, buck up! They have dog in them.”
He is super confident, a heel sometimes, but my almost best friend.
He is really great at cheering me up, helping me have a better day.
I am laughing now, full of relief, for look what I got in the mail today?
