Two Pairs of Shoes

I got a pair for casual wear and the salesman sold me another for formal wear like romantic dates, and job interviews knowing I had just graduated and had a beautiful girlfriend. I've been working two shift jobs paying down student loans and credit card debt. And my girlfriend left town with a rich man soon after she saw me in worker's uniform. It's been a while since then. I still have two pairs of shoes, the casual wear is worn out the formal one is brand new wrapped in a fancy shoe box made for expensive shoes. I can feel the pain and the loss in the lines. The telltale one says, "I still have two pairs of shoes, the casual wear is worn out." I enjoyed reading this one today. Thank you for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

If true, you are both great poet and overcomer. Enjoyed the many meanings here ... Shalom shalom ( poets who never loved, are technically sound .... But living & losing made an Emily Dickinson)

Very ironic and insightful poem, Vijay. I had a beautiful girlfriend like that too in my young life. Wanted the glamorous life quick and fast, not the way I was building my life, slow and steady. C'est la vie (such is life.) Wonderful poem. Love and joy always.

Thank you Connie. We've been to Hawaii, but you live there, and the joy of the land comes through in your work.
