Twilight
Twilight's shadows prick awareness
a prelude to the night descending
as day hesitates before it's passing.
Curtains of the sunset are drawn
over the horizon as colors of day
dissolve into blackness of night.
Early evening sky is hushed as cool air
surrounds the moon and stars
light winds whisper twilight tunes in unison.
Plaintive hoots of an owl are heard
while a small chorus of crickets chirp
in steady tempo accompanied by bullfrogs.
Earthy music of nature floats hither and yon
a symphony of secrets, briefly revealed
twilight mysteries linger as long notes
fade softly into the vast chasm of time.
