Turtle

There were dreams that would never be
There were scars that you couldn't see
Too tough to cry, she never tried
She held her feelings deep inside
I said you're like a turtle
Living in your own little hell
You won't let people reach you.
You hide inside your shell
She said she had no feelings
She hated everything in sight
The rage that was bottled up for years
There would be an explosion tonight
She prayed for strength to end it all
But her prayers must have been refused
The first ten years of her life
Were spent neglected and abused
Now living with an adopted family
With a home and love to share
She could not accept the fact
That anyone else would care
She held on to her violent past
She held on to the lies
She held on to the bitterness
But there were teardrops in her eyes
Love can wash away some of the pain
And reinstall some pride
But even love can't wash away
The scars they left inside.

Yes, love heals! I've witnessed it first hand. Please read "Tears on a Page". You hit the mark. Thanks for the words. I get it! Z
