Tulip in December

On December 20th I saw a red tulip growing on the side of my mother’s house. You could be forgiven for thinking that that’s no place for a flower to bloom; and I would likely agree. On the 22nd I decided to give her some water hoping she would grow despite the icy conditions surrounding her. On night of the 25th I laid with her in the dirt and wondered if she’d survive if I left her now on her own. The next day I began to carefully remove her roots from the soil and planted her in a pretty beige pot at home. Today she’s in bloom, tall and crimson.
