   I’ve tried my hardest
      No, you haven’t
Yes, I have. I really have
      No, you haven’t…

   When a man says
      He’s tried his hardest
      but he hasn’t achieved
His lie no one should believe

Hello Gershon, I do not think he tried too hard. Your friend, /Darlene/

I try to believe him.... Maybe needs just a good kick in the butt? Or to give someone else a chance? Maybe he started too unrealistic? Or our own wanting control out of control? Imagine how God must feel, that Free Will thing?!

A sharp, economical free-verse piece that lets its form enact its argument: the repeated, indented contradiction becomes the persistent voice of truth dismantling an easy self-excuse. The clipped dialogue creates tension immediately, while the final quatrain widens the private exchange into a clear, memorable moral observation.
