Thank you, Gregory:) I showed this short poem to a friend of mine who is crazy about bonsai, and he pointed out that this art needs to be regarded from a positive point of view; I think he was not amused by my poetic license! Regards // paul

I love Bonsai, (though I've never had luck with the ones I've bought, Sigh) I love the metaphor in your Haiku, and I love the image. And I see congratulations are in order here Paul, so well deserved my dear friend.....Maria hugs

I would say profound, being a grower of bonsai, never thought of myself as being despotic. I hasten to add bonsai can be found growing in the wild albeit in suitable restricting nooks and crannies, which won't dry out. But hey what a wonderful haiku, I think on reflection my choice of a second place was bias. It's a winner, congratulations, Paul. Mick

I am absolutely certain that you are no despot, Mick:):) I have seen how my friend looks after his bonsai trees with devotion, and that is what sparked off this haiku, my mind moving in the opposite direction! Thank you for your honest comments, and for my placement. Regards // paul

Love the way you use the bonsai tree as a metaphor for those who endure the chains that usurp freedom. Very clever, Paul. This is my favorite and an excellent entry for the contest. Always wishing you success. Love, carolyn
