Trees By Alfred Joyce Kilmer
Listen to poem:
I think that I
shall never see,
A poem as lovely
as a tree,
The sun thus shine
its countenance,
The tree whose gift,
sparse its expanse,
Tree girth aloft,
neath midst remain,
Flicks of light burst,
like windows stain,
The trunk weighs down,
the cradled youth,
Internal weave
exploits the root,
A tree who hath,
purged forth hugged vein,
Thereon, ventures
along its frame,
A tree our fabled
wonderment,
Our learned life begs
our testament,
The tree till naught,
nor did we toil,
Providence had,
sprung it from soil,
God gave its lifeline
to savor,
Graced from seed,
a tree He favor,
Seasons race,
a timely fashion,
The Divine hath
shewn compassion,
A poet writes
in praise of trees,
Songs made of this
sweet melodies,
A fool now cools
his stubbled toes,
Twas well-rehearsed
endowed in verse,
A quill at rest
a chapter close,
What said of trees
God truly knows.
