Tree of Life
Staring out my window, watching the trees dance in the breeze,
I am reminded of the way she would dance through the kitchen
And the songs she’d sing as she’d tingle the spoon around in her cup of tea.
Although we were a family with little, we were abundant in affection.
Her warm hands, that held the breath of each soul that she’d met,
Could have melted the cold that now lies within the roots of me.
There is no way that I could arrange the letters in this alphabet
To delineate all that the winter has brought upon these trees
That were once adorned with the amber leaves of her energy,
And are now left naked as she was when she was brought into this world.
For in her loss, life could no longer unfurl.
As above, she’ll dance as though she never died.
So below, we’ll stand beside
The tree that planted all she left behind.
