Travelling Light

Don’t pack your shoes, clothing, or any jewelry. In fact, leave your wallet and your keys. Even leave your laptop and your cell phones with all their data that you’ve stored on them. Bring no coat or sweater. I don’t know how the weather will be where you are going, but I imagine it will be fantastic! Everyone alive upon this planet will take the trip you will be embarking on. Multitudes have gone ahead of you. The rich man and the poor man too - nobody ever will get left behind. No passport is required where you’ll soon be going, and I say “soon” because even if you live a hundred years, that century is less than a mere second compared to an eternity of time! When it’s your time to go, I hope it will be painless. Some souls, I know, endure great suffering before they leave. But for many others, it’s a bittersweet release from Earth’s disease. No man can say with certainty where you will be going. Perhaps you will return to this planet or maybe to another with valuable lessons yet to be learned. Perhaps where you are going you’ll be welcomed by loved ones who have gone on ahead of you. Perhaps you’ll suffer anguish for a time for some past sins, but in the end, I truly do believe something big and beautiful awaits us all. The intracacies of creation; the wonder of worlds we’ve yet to see - these things let me know there’s purpose in it all! When your body is dead weight, you’ll abandon it for this final journey, for one day, the essence that is you will flee the mortal shell that now confines it. Though weightless, the powers of your soul are limitless. When my own soul releases, I’m hoping to enjoy that ride most mysterious into the great beyond. . . For sure, I’ll be travelling light! You expressed my thoughts brilliantly: HE made this physical universe so splendid, HE's unlimited with whatever else is in store.

Andrea i've normally a strict rule of when i make comments, because of the lack of time i have now-a-days,,but this poem just blew me away,,not only that the subject matter, is right up my mind-set, this is the poetry i love, and your rendering of the whole aspect is amazing,,this in my opinion is better than 'cinder girl' i'm here right now, at the Hilton in Glasgow Scotland,,and so happy you have seen this awesome poem

So eloquently spoken, dear Andrea! For sure, I always say, even if we live to be 100 it is a short time! We can usually except the "dead weight" deaths. It is the young ( whether a child or a joyous, vibrant soul like my Aunt) that boggles our minds. But we all must go, in the end, traveling light! GL in contest!

Hi Andrea, This is a good take on the contest theme. It was so capitivaing and held my attention the entire time. I could just picture the scene. It's a journey we all must take, so we all must try to live our lives to the full. Excellent job. I wish you the best of luck:-) Alexis

And a bl..dy good job we do not know for sure when we will croak...would'nt be much fun during our short stay if we did! To hell with it -- large kebab with hot chili sauce and an extra large portion of chips for me from the chipper tonight! Not forgetting, of course - the Doctor Pepper! Cheers, Andrea! :) john
