All through this journey I can hear soft sighs.
The darkness a black universe around.
Against me hands, or feet, and someone cries.
In nearness of small bodies warmth is found.
Lightyears ago there was firm ground, and earth;
There was something called food, there was a drink;
There was this feeling I was something, worth
Of seeing, hearing, compassion, but I think
Somewhere along the way they changed from light
to dark, so none can see what has become
Of children when they take away plain sight,
Parents, safety, relative comfort of a home.
This darkness complements their naked lies
As numb in mind as toes and fingers cold
I light my last match, quickly count our eyes.....
Sixteen in total, eight children to be sold.
