Notes About The Poem

Train Wreck

I fell asleep to the hum in my mind,
The rumbling sound in my soul,
I fell asleep to the life I had lived,
In the train with no control,

Down the hills, across the creeks,
No plan, no rule, no aim,
I dove deeper, longer, pushing harder,
My brilliantly rampant flame,

And, in love, I took no pictures,
No images for the wreck I would become,
No time to stop and think of calm,
From this train I would not jump,

With no tracks of rules for laws of love,
I drove the train to the void,
And floated free as it plummeted down,
And woke as my life destroyed.

Lewis, your poem is deep and emotional.. Dreams often reflect what we think and feel about the state of affairs we call our life and can lead to an epiphany to change course. Your poem, with its feeling of the building momentum of a run-away train, is brilliantly expressed. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
