Tracing His Lonely Path

Feeling awkward to ring his own doorbell
Fearing someone else has taken his place
He lingers there, standing on the dark porch
Jealous of the solitary moth buzzing her air,

Walking away briskly, unsure what to say
If she opens the door at this midnight hour,
He retreats hastily, resuming to go nowhere.

Road he knows well, takes him to quiet beach
Where together they inflamed ardent promise
When bouncing tides had sensuous meaning.

Sights on his walk treat him like a stranger
As blooms curl up upon glancing his stare
Dissipating remnants of nocturnal fragrance.

Stars that once twinkled, now look darkened,
Air that refreshed souls now smells misty salt
As silence reigns words yearning for dialogue.

Crushed by saddened raps, he turns around
And there he sees her tracing his lonely path--
Ignoring his open arms, briskly she carries on.

This is a haunting write, a little perplexing too. I thought she was chasing his trail to join him ! But ignoring his open arms she walks past him. I hoped his initial anxiety will be brushed aside with a happy ending ! But the poet in you is so realistic... Life hardly presents itself as we wish and hope ... Great write !

Sometimes, it just isn't meant to be. Sad in ways, but in others- it means the right one is out there waiting- simply waiting to feel the heart of the one it beats for. Your thoughts always touch me and my heart. Congratulations Vijay, on this win. ~ Brandy

Lost love surely makes it hard to find joy in life, Vijay. Even the blooms seem to be shrinking away from him. While we all like to hear happy endings, sometimes life has disappointments and the reader feels for him in that last verse when she doesn't rush into his "open arms." Congratulations on your win in Brian's contest! Hugs, Carolyn

Hi Vijay, a poem that is beautiful in its very sadness. You create the scene with emotion and the words paint such vivid imagery. You play with the heartstrings with this write from the heart. When the heart sings with such emotion the reader feels each line read, deep within the heart. This is excellent poetry Vijay. have a wonderful Wednesday. Your friend always....Mike.

A sad write. The inner world can darken outer beauty. We have hope at the end but she still spurns him. Not knowing the background, we can only guess if he deserves it or if she is just a cold woman. Nicely done! I hope your taking off for something fun!
