Torn

I cannot just sit back with tears in my eyes,
Without telling you in my heart what I recognize,
I looked for a way to tell you gently,
But there was no way of saying this without it hurting,
What words at the time seemed so cruel to hear,
My heart was in agony for you and my love was sincere,
I was torn as to whether I should speak or pretend...
Like everything was fine but that's not being your friend,
I knew the chance I took might hurt your ego,
Or make you hate me and place me at your enemies table,
But your heart was more important to me,
Love can make you do funny things,
