Too Soon Bereft

Come quickly spring, just weeks away, fulfill your promise - life anew;
a ring to give, a vow to take, a oneness where there once were two.
A fleeting, tragic, rain-drenched moment; one is gone, just one is left.
Foul winter taking one too soon, and leaving one too soon bereft.

I know you have also known loss, and you know that healing balm that can come from pouring out the overpowering emotions into verse. I do appreciate the fact that you remember the original, and that you felt some emotion at reading this. That means a lot, my friend.

I am so happy for you. I think this is your first trophy? Wow, Congratulations, John. Very well done! By the way, I left a few answers to questions you posed in your recent comments to me. Ah, I knew I felt familiar with this sadly beautiful piece, John. This soulful gem is a wonderful choice for Greg's contest. This stanza, standing alone from your original poem, is not lessened in it's deep emotional impact. Here, the imagery of a heartbreaking moment is in full focus. Of course, I had to go back and re-visit "Winter's Antidote", a poem that fills my heart with feelings - your poignant pen never fails you, John, and it certainly never fails to move me deeply.
