Tonight We Are Calm
Tonight we are calm
Not because we are armed
Tonight we are calm
Because we choose to be that way
Because we refuse the other way
Because we are after something
Much more difficult to find than trouble
Searching by windblown candlelight
For bits and pieces of peace in the rubble
Scratching with fingers in the freezing night
Our outcomes tomorrow will be different
Because our approach tonight is different
Tonight we are calm and decidedly charming
Tonight here we've come, thoughtfully silent
Seeing what we hadn't seen and knowing
What we hadn't known (we heard you calling)
Our eyes and ears then followed
And although a little blinded (it was snowing)
And the words hard to hear (some were snoring)
We followed with you to this place called Hallowed
And found our roots were shallow
And found there was need to dig deeper
And got down to work, digging deeper
And the Greeks said, we would see Jesus
To which our thoughts raced hither and thither
And we our feet positioned where he posited
Searched with new ears for something new to hear
Something worth holding near and dear
The best things are heard by just a few
And we might be just the few, seeking clues
Our hearts are torn by sex and violence
We shall return to this place with sax and violins
To make a different kind of sound
And hope everyone ends up charmed like us
And follow also to that place called Hallowed
I've seen it in its totality
Questions led to answers and answers
To more questions
If this is a song, what does it recall?
If this is a chord, how does it resolve?
We shall see, my friend
We shall see
But tonight we are calm
Not just because we are charmed
