Tonight I Came Home
Tonight I came home to a rare
empty house and melted into a porch chair
outside with a glass of whiskey and ice
I hooded my head to deflect
the autumn wind
while I sipped away and watched
the evening sun lose it's grip on
a charring sky that was becoming
slowly spattered with stars
and absent the sun
the moon did appear
hanging Like a stone
Washed in the endless river of sky
I sipped again at my drink
feeling it's cold burn in my throat
a simple happiness flooded my soul
as a smiled curled it's way onto my face
I realized then
that I could not enjoy these solitary times
so much if I was unable to miss
the ones who were usually there to fill them
