Tom and Jerry

          Tom
          A shy, hapless cat, often lazy and calm
          Defeated with his own tricks by Jerry
          Poor Tom seems more fit as a fairy...

          Jerry
          A spunky, sly mouse, alert, never wary
          Awaiting his frenemy, Tom, he will scheme
          Yet taunting each other makes them the best team!

Do you remember what tom was called before they were tom and Jerry? His name was jasper and he was an old black women's cat and a worthless one at that. Jasper in a aunt mae kind of call like when she would holler for Andy or any one at all Up in a chair she jump we only see her shoes and colorful sox and the bottom of a Brady bunch nanny type outfit she would always were sweeping the kitchen but always caught a scare at the site of the mouse jasper you worthless cat you better get in here

Tom and Jerry was one of my all-time favorite cartoons growing up. The word "frenemies" sums them up so perfectly, as does your whole poem! The last line is just perfect. This makes me want to go buy some sugary cereal and relive my childhood Saturday mornings watching Tom and Jerry shenanigans. Love it!

Love this! You’ve pegged the team! Cartoons of old were well crafted…a bit violent but today is much worse. They made us laugh but made us think too. :)

Sorry for the late response, but thank you, Kim, for your very kind comment! You are so accurate about the violence of present day. It is beyond sad to watch children become desensitized through cartoons & video games unlike the ones written during "Tom and Jerry's" debut. Ironically, when shown older cartoons, most children actually love them. We just need to expose them to the right type of media! Thanks again for stopping by! God bless and much love...Meghan

Well, Jerry, thank you so very much! I greatly appreciate your comment! I'm sure you noticed that I wrote this for a contest and placed as one of the 1st place winners, which felt wonderful. However, it feels even better to know that I personally touched others with the poem. You should have met my father-in-law, a Lloyd's Bank manager who could watch Tom & Jerry all day long and still laugh at every episode ....good luck in the contest!

I wish I could've met him! I'm 42, and remember watching reruns all the time! I just loved the predicaments Tom would get himself into, yet he would never stop trying to get Jerry. The animation was humorous, too! Classic cartoon! Thanks for the luck; it worked!!

Thank you very much! I will definitely enter your contest! I entered your 'light verse' once, but a couple of the notes to center the poem remained on the poem and I didn't place. I was disappointed. However, it might've just been that my poem wasn't one of the top picks, but I am up for the challenge, so thank you for your compliment!!
