Together, Separately

We travel through this world together, walking hand in hand. Stepping into a crowded room, as one we promised to stand. You and I try to act as one, as all our friends can see. As we walk into the room we see someone that we both know, He’s come to see me, and acknowledge you as well. As we stand and talk it becomes quite clear, that this conversation was meant for only two. So I just stop and stand politely, not knowing what else to do. You have your talk, while I just wait, and contemplate the view. The night goes on and so it seems that though we are together, The conversations that we share are narrower and narrower. Focused on me or focused on you not how we are together. When dinner comes we sit side by side. Close enough to touch, but pulled in opposite ways. As young adults we only had eyes for each other, I miss those days. When you gave your all to me, and I did the same for you. All our conversations were for just us, and maybe others too. But it was mainly for just me and you. Now it’s time to go so we say goodbye to as all conversations are through. It’s time for one to come from two, As a pair is made from me and you. I am just a little sad that we were here together, but separated we drew. Hopefully next time we will not be there together, separately.
