Today's Coffee Is Less Than Sweet

these thoughts
i'm sipping
are more bitter
than the coffee
i'm drinking
this morning

the past
is stirring
in swirls
of emotions

i try
to bury myself
in sugar coated dreams
but all that lingers
is the salt
from old wounds

i feel disregarded
like the grounds
from this old pot
as it pours
darkness
into my thoughts

Wonderful metaphor my friend with strong supporting images. I so hope you don't feel "disregarded." Each of us is needed and each of us is necessary. You are a gift. Congratulations on your win!

Love the analogy of coffee and sugar to the dark thoughts of disappointment - will ponder that over my next cup!

Thank you so much. My muse spoke to me over my coffee the other day .... hugs. Sipping thoughts with coffee sometimes is an interesting mix

Oh my gosh can you write and oh my gosh I feel the weight of pain squishing you and ink out of your pen. Please put more sugar in your coffee - just kidding. Once again, you delivered as intended, as Sandra. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Interesting analogy to bitter coffee. May I interest you in a cup of Turkish java?! (They used to call it 'mud' in Israel. LOL). ~ Gershon

Good advice from Anne-Lise..but we all sip the old brew from time to time..and it hurts. Many can relate to your poem, Sandy.

Some days can taste more bitter than others and your poem makes me sad at the thought of those days are being poured again for you. Your heart is spilling in your poetry today my friend. But I do know this, friendship is like sugar, it is not an artificial sweetener. If you let your cup overflow with the friends you have, you might be surprised at how quickly that bitterness can disappear.
