Today Is Shake Up Day At School
Today is shake up day. We all knew it was coming.
Two of the teachers have been rejoicing for six weeks that they only had eight children in their classes.
We old-timers have chuckled our teeth out.
We had told them it was not going to last, but none had listened.
What did we know?
Um, all together we have been teaching for a hundred years or so.
They pretended that our ideas were absurd.
We were dinosaurs, off our feed, we did not know anything.
Can I chuckle now or would this be rude?
We dinosaurs are watching the shake up today, in silence, not actively gloating.
Did they really think eight students would be enough?
They were snippy when we suggested these classes were eventually going to be merged.
We have been secret chuckling about it for weeks, knowing the score.
The district is making the teachers do the shake up dance today.
Two classes will be merged; one teacher will be leaving.
The teachers were notified on Friday.
They were in shock, stunned, disbelieving
Angry that they had no idea.
Angry that now they would have to teach more than eight.
Angry that they had been given hardly any notice.
Um, we have been telling them since the first week of school.
