Today Comes a Storm
Today comes a storm, winds rush from tree to tree, bullying the autumn leaves
Until they fall, blown sideways, rolling, spinning
I imagine their laughter, their joy, caught in the gathering maelstrom
They dance in circles, whirling, swirling, like a shoal of fish, always turning as if as one
Then to the ground they fall, to be swept along finding rest, perhaps a hedge, a trunk, a bush
They pile together as if seeking sanctuary, a haven, respite from the bluster
Until the carpet they form is a mass of golden yellows, reds and browns
An ever-changing tapestry of nature, a fabric beyond compare
Woven by wind and rain each a unique moment of change
The storm passes, the sun casts light, a thousand drops of water glisten
The leaves reflect like mirrors, a pallet of wonder, a miracle
Today came a storm and left me a gift.
